[2] Zamberlan Vioz GTX
[3.2lbs, 1.4kgs: CA$270.00: zamberlan.com]
We loved the Vioz's handsome exterior, solid fit, and functional and versatile design. With classic Italian styling, built almost seamlessly from beautiful full-grain leather, these boots are probably the most traditional looking pair on a store wall today. But beneath this conservative exterior is a cutting-edge sole. The leather is impregnated wiht a water-phobic coating and lined with Gore-Tex. The combination of EVA wedges and a half-TPU [thermoplastic polyurethane] plate makes the boots supportive enough for heavy-duty trail-less backpacking, but also flexible enough for day hiking with the clunk. Bonus: they felt great, right out of the box.
KEEP IN MIND: Buy some polish. The sexy, shiny leather scuffs easily.
THE FINAL WORD: The Vioz will suit hikers looking for a boot worthy of Robin Leach circa 1990, with a price more in line with Robin Leach circa 2008
